I live and work near Wanganui, New Zealand and create my artwork as a digital painter as well as painting in oils. My interest in digital painting has stemmed from my photography. My paintings result from scanning an object or an actual photograph as the source material. The working image is drafted in the computer using software programmes appropriate to my needs. I use a digital pen on a pressure sensitive tablet, in the same way a brush would be used in any traditional medium. Each stroke of my painting is made by selectively choosing the size and effect desired. There is a popular misconception that "the computer does it all at the click of a button". Once the painting is completed the image is saved as a digital file which can be used to print onto a variety of mediums. Currently I have work that is exhibited on canvas, textured fine art paper and photographic paper. I use inks and papers which have been thoroughly tested for media compatibility, colour longevity and stability. I produce my own artwork as well as working with individuals who want a particularly unique piece of art for their own home. This has led to creating coffee table books about treasured things in peoples lives. Further samples of this work can be seen on my website www.heirloombooks.co.nz |
